Australia-Malaysia Cultural Exchange Program

The Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is currently hosting six Australian Muslim youth leaders who are participating in the Australia-Malaysia Cultural Exchange Program from 9 to 16 June 2013. Six young Malaysian Muslim leaders took part in the Australian leg of the program in May 2013.

The Australia-Malaysia Cultural Exchange Program is an Australian Government initiative, supported by the Malaysian Government. The program enables young Australians and Malaysians to travel to each other’s countries and develop a stronger understanding of other cultures and faiths. This program was first announced during the visit to Malaysia in November 2012 by Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Bob Carr.

The Australia-Malaysia Cultural Exchange Program is funded by the Australia-Malaysia Institute, which is housed in Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. In coordinating the Malaysian leg of the program, the Australian High Commission has been assisted by the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Global Movement of Moderates Foundation.

The Australian delegates (Azmeena Hussain, Ashraf Naim, Kashif Bouns, Dr Ghena Krayem, Maryum Chaudhry and Yassmin Abdel-Magied) are participating in the week-long program which includes a series of tours, meetings, roundtable conversations, panel discussions and media interviews. The participants have met with religious leaders, academics, community leaders, politicians and journalists.
