MALAYSIAN AWARDED ELITE COACHING SCHOLARSHIP WITH SWIMMING AUSTRALIA
The Australian High Commission is pleased to announce that Malaysian Mr Andrew Oon Hock Beng has been selected to take part in Swimming Australia’s elite coaching scholarship program. Swimming Australia is the peak body responsible for the promotion and development of swimming in Australia.
The scholarship has been funded by a grant from the Australia-Malaysia Institute (AMI). This placement is an initiative under the Malaysia’s National Sport Council (NSC) coaching development program.
Mr Oon, who was nominated to take part in the program by the NSC, has over ten years experience in competitive coaching, learn-to-swim classes and preparing swimmers for competitions. He also won gold medals in various state-level swimming championships. Currently, Mr Oon is the Head Coach and Team Manager of the Penang International Sports Arena Swimming Team.
Mr Oon’s scholarship program will take place in Perth from 29 November 2010 to 7 January 2011. Mr Oon will take part in pool training and testing, and assist with strength and conditioning programs in Australia’s world class swimming program.
Mr Miles Kupa, Australia’s High Commissioner to Malaysia, said “We are keen to exchange swimming experience and expertise with Malaysia. This scholarship is the latest in a long line of collaborative projects in sport between Australia and Malaysia, two nations with a passion for sport.”
