Vacancies listed here are for Locally Engaged Staff (LES). LES are employed under local contracts of employment to work directly for the High Commission. The employment can either be an ongoing basis or fixed contract basis under specific terms and conditions of employment based on local labour laws. LES positions do not carry diplomatic or consular status, privileges, or immunities.
Prospective applicants need to demonstrate that they are eligible to work by local citizenship or be able to meet work visa requirements. All relocation costs are at the expense of the successful candidate.

- Selection criteria: A one- or two-page pitch of no more than 1000 words.

- Selection for Interviews
Only candidates being shortlisted for a position will be contacted and in-person interviews will be conducted at the Australian High Commission (Malaysia) located in Kuala Lumpur. The selection committee will consists of representatives from the mission.
Candidates shortlisted for interviews will be asked a range of general, situational, and behavioural questions. These questions are structured to bring forth responses that demonstrate skills, knowledge of the selection criteria, and assess the suitability for the position.
- Acceptance of Offer
Successful candidates will be made an offer of employment subject to verification of all essential job requirements and fulfillment of any security clearance conditions.
The Australian High Commission in Malaysia maintains a temporary employment register which is used to fill short – term vacancies. Prospective candidates can submit an expression of interest for temporary, non – ongoing employment at the Australian High Commission, Malaysia. Most vacancies are usually at short notice for a short term (fixed term) contract (up to 6 months).
Temporary employment opportunities arise due to various reasons such as:
- Permanent staff members on extended leave
- Period of peak activities
- To assist in specific short-term projects/programs
