Datuk Dr Philip Ting – Honorary Member of the Order of Australia

Datuk Dr Philip Ting was appointed an Honorary Member of the Order of Australia (AM) on 1 July 2010 for services as Australia’s Honorary Consul in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

Datuk Dr Ting is Australia’s longest serving honorary consul, commencing in 1989 and working with eight different Australian High Commissioners. His dedication has been exemplary and he has performed with the highest level of professionalism. The support he has given to Australian citizens in Sarawak has been highly valued.

Datuk Dr Ting has made an exceptional contribution to strengthening the relationship between Australia and Malaysia. Datuk Dr Ting is Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Malaysia-Australia Foundation (since 1999) and Vice-Patron of the Sarawak-Australian Graduates’ Association.

Datuk Dr Ting has also been a very active supporter of Swinburne University’s campus in Sarawak since its opening in 2000, including as a member of the governing board. He has been instrumental in Swinburne’s development and has donated funds to support the library and medical research.

Australia’s new High Commissioner to Malaysia, Mr Miles Kupa, said he and his colleagues at the Australian High Commission were delighted at the news of Datuk Dr Ting’s award.

Mr Kupa said he was looking forward to working closely with him over the course of his posting.
